The International Commission on Irrigation and Drainage (ICID) was established on 24 June, 1950 as a Scientific, Technical and Voluntary Not-for-profit Non-Governmental International Organization (NGO) with headquarters in New Delhi, India. The Commission is dedicated to enhancing the worldwide supply of food and fibre for all people by improving water and land management and the productivity of irrigated and drained lands through appropriate management of water, environment and application of irrigation, drainage and flood management techniques.

Exploring
opportunities to strengthen IPTRID - President's interaction in
China

President Chandra Madramootoo visited China and was accompanied by Vice President Hon. Karim Shiati, Chair of the Asian Regional Working Group. The Minister of Water Resources, The Director and staff of the Institute of Water Resources and Hydropower Research, and the President and members of CNCID were most hospitable and ensured that the visit was fruitful. In addition to formal meetings and presentations in Beijing, he had the opportunity to visit the Shijin Irrigation District in Hebei province, as well as the 2010 World Expo in Shanghai.
