The International Commission on Irrigation and Drainage (ICID) was established on 24 June, 1950 as a Scientific, Technical and Voluntary Not-for-profit Non-Governmental International Organization (NGO) with headquarters in New Delhi, India.

The Commission is dedicated to enhancing the worldwide supply of food and fibre for all people by improving water and land management and the productivity of irrigated and drained lands through appropriate management of water, environment and application of irrigation, drainage and flood management techniques.

Australian Irrigation Conference and Exhibition 2010

President Chandra Madramootoo was invited by the Irrigation Australia Limited (IAL)
(Incorporating ANCID, the Australian National Committee on Irrigation & Drainage) for the Australian Irrigation Conference and Exhibition 2010, 8-10 June 2010, Sydney, Australia, and was a plenary speaker at the conference on the topic “One water, many futures”. This biennial conference and exhibition is the largest in the Southern Hemisphere and 95 papers and 50 posters were presented and several workshops were held. The conference was the largest irrigation conference held to date in Australia, with over 500 delegates and 120 companies exhibiting their products and services.

Exploring opportunities to strengthen IPTRID - President's interaction in China
May 2010, Beijing, China

President Chandra Madramootoo visited China and was accompanied by Vice President Hon. Karim Shiati, Chair of the Asian Regional Working Group. The Minister of Water Resources, The Director and staff of the Institute of Water Resources and Hydropower Research, and the President and members of CNCID were most hospitable and ensured that the visit was fruitful. In addition to formal meetings and presentations in Beijing, he had the opportunity to visit the Shijin Irrigation District in Hebei province, as well as the 2010 World Expo in Shanghai.
